Some other family Traditions. . . .GOOD EDUCATION, daily "SCHOOL PRAYER'S", yearly "FATHER'S BLESSINGS" & "AFTER SCHOOL TREATS". . . .

While raising our children when they were school age.  I'd have a nice dinner prepared and fun dessert ready when my hubby came home the night before the first day of the new school year.  We'd eat dinner and then he would give each of our children a father's blessing to help them start off the new school year with confidence.  Then we'd have a great dessert.  After the first day of school I would take my children to 31 Flavors for their first "after school treat" of the new school year.  I remember one year while the kids and I were enjoying our hotfudge sundaes a man came up to me and gave me his card.  He was a neighborhood Doctor who thought my large family had potential as his new patients.  Anyway as the year's have passed I've seen and sometimes been included in this Family Tradition as it is carried on by my children for their children.

Another Family Tradition that I found very comforting for myself and hopefully it accomplished what I wanted for my children each day.  I would have an individual "School Prayer" with each of my school children each morning before they left for school.  In the prayer I told them that they were important, loved and special.

I would ask for blessings for them in regards to their particular wants and needs as I'd gleaned from them after each school day. I prayed for their teachers to be able to meet their needs and that they'd show respect to their teachers and listen and take part.

(I hope that now that my daughter is a school teacher that other's are doing that for her.) I remember one morning we were in such a rush that I'd sent LaNell off on the school bus without her "School Prayer".  It so un-nerved me that I drove over to the school, went inside the school office and asked to be able to take her out of class for about a half hour.  They let me and I took her out to our car for my prayer for her behalf.

LaNell is a teacher and all her daughter's are in school so their "school bus cake" is meant for all of them along with the "blessing" given to each for the new school year.

All local cousin's meet for icecream after the first day of school to compare notes on new teachers etc

.  . . . even the highschooler's need each other to get thru their first day of school.
